Captains' Update - December 2025

IMPORTANT NOTES 

CHRISTMAS AMBROSE & PRESENTATION DAY
This was perhaps the best yet – a full time sheet, a full house for lunch, more carts than ever with Christmas decorations and many players wearing their Christmas best outfits with some really outstanding efforts by teams of four. Given all the hard work James and his team have been doing on renovations, everyone was surprised by just how fantastic the course was. 
Thirty two competition and prize winners were awarded their trophies and recognized for their achievements. A fantastic day. Sincere thanks to Kerri Cook and her hardworking assistants Ruth Hooper, Margot Drakeford and Lisa Atkins for organization, preparation, table decorations and with lots of help from Matt Shannon and Adam increasing the size of the field to beyond our usual maximum and finding extra places for the lunch. 

CHRISTMAS HAMPERS
This year Magenta members and residents again donated generously to enable an amazing 43 hampers to be made up and delivered to The Entrance Community Centre. These will make 43 struggling local families’ Christmas a happier one. 
Thanks to all who donated and special thanks to Ruth Hooper for all her hard work in making this happen. 

CANCER COUNCIL - THE LONGEST DAY 
Tuesday 25th November:
Congratulations to Kyle Thornhill and thanks to all who donated. The 6 teams/22 players raised more than $15,000. A few including Kyle managed to complete 72 holes! 

EAGLE NEST AND NTPs 
Reminder – there is no longer an Eagles Nest. There is an NTP on 4 Par 3s. 
On the 4th hole the NTP for Division 2 ladies is nearest after 2 shots. 

TERMS OF COMPETITION
These have been revised. They are available on the website and app. 

HOLE INDICES
The analysis has been completed and several changes will be made to both Mens and Ladies indices from 1 January 2026. 
For matchplay we will in future use the Golf Australia Recommended Matchplay Index.

SHOOTOUT

SHOOTOUT 2026
In 2026 we have decided to run one Shootout for the year with the best 4 rounds counting between January Medal Day and the end of November. 
The top 20 will then be ranked and the qualifiers 1,3 ,5 etc will play a Shootout on the front nine at the same time the even numbered qualifiers will play a Shootout on the back nine. The two winners will then play the 1st hole to determine the overall winner. 
Provided Bonville agrees to supply accommodation/golf vouchers again the one prize for ladies and one for men will be the same as in the past.

Magenta’s 20th Anniversary 2026
A special committee has been set up comprising Judy Stapleton, Cathy Wardrope and Kerri Cook to organise a special function. If you would like to help or have some suggestions (perhaps from experiences at other Clubs) please contact Judy, Cathy or Kerri. 

Cancellation
Most Saturday, Wednesday and Sunday competitions are at or near capacity. Please respect your fellow members by cancelling as soon as you know you cannot play. “No shows” are totally unacceptable. We will introduce penalties for all No shows and for repeat late cancellations.
