MAGENTA WINS MENS DISTRICT PENNANTS
Magenta Shores has won both the A Grade Pennant and the Sterland Shield for the first time.
A, B and C Grade Pennant Teams from 9 Clubs compete for their respective Pennant, with the Sterland Shield being awarded to the best aggregate score.
A Grade had to win last Sunday to go through undefeated; which they did! Winning eight from eight games.
Kooindah placed second, losing only to Magenta. Jason Hyde put a great team together and led brilliantly from the start. His knowledge of the players from other teams allowed him to choose a playing order each week for a competitive edge. And it worked! Exceptionally good golf from the team provided a strong foundation for a great win.
B Grade came 5th but were just one win away from tying for second place.
C Grade placed equal third however were just one win away from equal first.
The battle for the Sterland Shield, the competition for the top Club among the 9 Clubs, was very close.
Going into the last round, Magenta, Wyong and Shelley Beach, could all have won. After the final round, Magenta and Wyong finished on 34 points each resulting in a "countback" of the number of individual matches won.
Wyong 65.5; Magenta 69.5.
We won!
So, while B and C Grades fell just short of a Pennant win, their wins throughout the season were rewarded with the Sterland Shield.
The A Grade win and the Sterland Shield win are the first for Magenta since the Club was admitted to the CCDGA on 12 July 2006.
Captain John watched most of the rounds and it was such a pleasure. Really great golf and tremendous camaraderie. However, so excited was everyone at the end that we omitted to take photos! We will remedy that shortly.
Congratulations to all A Grade players and to all players in all Grades. A fantastic result.
Our Celebratory Pennant Dinner is on Thursday October 10th.
