Women’s Classic Golf Tournament
A reminder that the course is closed during the week of 2-8 March 2026 as we host the LET/Golf NSW co-sanctioned Australian Women’s Classic. We already have signage being installed at the entrance to, and around, the Club’s premises. As we experienced in previous years we have some excellent support coming from the Club and residents – David Stuart and Greig Newberry managing volunteers and caddies, and Margaret Sanger managing billeting of players. Thank you to our coordinators, the tournament simply wouldn’t be the same without your assistance. If you are able to volunteer or provide accommodation please contact the coordinators or the office.
With thoughts of the tournament in mind, and the course currently being presented in fabulous condition, it’s timely to remind all Members to fill your divots, care for the bunkers (never enter from the high side) and repair pitch marks, all of which will help ensure the course receives the praise it deserves during competition week.
Membership
We are now approaching renewal season and the Board approved a general increase in subscriptions of about 5% with some minor adjustments in some categories to achieve better equity among Members. Members renewing by 31 March will receive a complimentary half hour lesson and a round of golf for a guest; individual members (including Family members) will receive two guest rounds. No vouchers will be issued this year, the entitlements will be managed electronically in the golf shop.
Golf cart memberships will increase to $800 (or $640 Family Member).
The Board considers the subscriptions represent very good value particularly considering the quality of course we have. As we are now self-managing the timely receipt of subscriptions is important to ensure the quality of services provided by our staff.
Since our last update the Club has welcomed 6 Individual Members (4 of whom are Intermediate) 1 Midweek, 2 9-Hole, 1 Junior and 11 Lifestyle. At the end of December total membership was 1,065. It was pleasing to see 2 Lifestyle Members transfer to Individual membership.
At the end of last year we indicated that a review of Membership levels and categories would be undertaken. Although it is too soon to report the results of the review, we are conscious that competition fields are nearing capacity. From 1 April the joining fees will be increased to the equivalent of a year’s subscription for the category being joined, and it’s possible a waiting list may be implemented.
General Manager
Matt Shannon has assumed the role of Interim GM and performing strongly in that role. Notwithstanding, the Board considers the market should be tested with a view to formalising a permanent appointment before 30 June. A sub-committee of the Board along with two Members has been formed to assess any applications received. Members will be advised of the outcome of the process as soon as possible.
Site Security
In common with other Clubs, particularly Shelly Beach and Long Reef, we have had unfortunate visits from e-bike riders who delight in damaging courses, particularly greens. Our 2nd green has been vandalised on three occasions over the new year period. We now have video footage and have identified at least one of the offenders – the matter is with the police and the young person’s school and parents.
Magenta Shores estate has very little effective site security and recently we have installed sensor operated lighting and video at the maintenance compound. The Community Association, Pullman Hotel and the Club are now looking into possible site-wide solutions to improve security, particularly high quality video capture systems across the estate and inside the main buildings.
